Using Hypnosis for Weight Loss


Hypnosis has been gaining popularity as a method of achieving weight loss in recent years. But, can getting hypnotized really help you lose weight? Not in the way you might think.

We often see people hypnotized on television. The hypnotist puts the person under and then gets them to perform wild and crazy stunts for the next hour. So, it seems logical that one could be put under and convinced they need to lose weight, right? But, that isn't the way hypnosis works.

A person can only be hypnotized if they want to be. The degree, however, varies from person to person. What you often don't see on television shows is that they search the crowds to find the people most open to suggestion to hypnotize. If you walk into hypnotherapy and fight the process in order to prove it can't be done, then you will not be able to be hypnotized.

It is also important to be aware that being hypnotized does not put you "under" or to "sleep". You will not be unconscious. You will be in an alternative state of consciousness with a very narrow focus of attention. You can hear everything that is being said.

Nothing happens without your consent and you remain in total control. You will not do anything that you do not think is acceptable and you cannot be "made" to violate your own values or morals. However, you will be extremely relaxed. You will remember everything that happens during your hypnosis. It is not known to have any harmful side effects when performed by a certified and ethical hypnotherapist.


Effects on Your Weight


Using hypnosis to achieve weight loss is a complex process, but it must be made clear that hypnosis alone will not "make" anyone lose weight. Hypnosis is a tool that can be used to explore and release the cause of the weight on an emotional or secondary level.

During hypnosis, you may try to explore the root of your weight gain or the reasons behind why you eat. Your mind may be given subtle suggestions to eat better and to change your attitude towards exercise.

Hypnosis will not make you unable to open the freezer and grab a fudge pop. It will not make you lose the desire to eat the fudge pop. It will only suggest to you that you may not want to eat that fudge pop. You will still need to heed that suggestion and close the freezer door.

Hypnosis is not a one-time visit. It can take several sessions of hypnotherapy to see any benefits. And again, whether or not you get any benefits will depend on your desire and will to heed the suggestions you are given. And as with any weight loss plan, you will still need to follow a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise.
