Exercise With Weight Training
Most people trying to lose weight will do cardiovascular exercises and forget about weight bearing exercises when it comes to burning fat. Many professional trainers will say that aerobic exercises burn off fat and weightlifting is only used to build muscle.
But, that is not entirely correct because the more muscle mass you acquire through weight bearing exercises, the more you will burn fat calories, even at rest, by increasing your metabolic rate. Cardiovascular activity combined with weight training can result in more effective fat loss.
Cardiovascular exercises will raise muscle metabolism during the exercise and for a short time after the workout. On the other hand, weight lifting exercises will raise your muscle metabolism during the workout and for a long time after the workout.
To do an adequate weight-training workout, you should limit your repetitions to anywhere from 1 to 20 reps. Such resistance on your muscles will make the muscle tissue leaner and stronger. Your muscles will develop during the rest period following the resistance training. So, it is important that you get sufficient periods of rest between your weight training sessions.
How Weight Training Works
When you lift weights, your muscle tissues are torn apart (at a microscopic level) from the stress. It's in the recuperation period that your muscles become stronger and therefore able to support the extra stress. Usually, you want to have a 24 to 48 hour recuperation period after your weight lifting sessions.
During the rest period between your weight lifting sessions, your muscle metabolism is still burning energy. That is when it is time to perform your cardiovascular activities. Cardiovascular exercise during this time will work your body on a different basis.
Combining low repetition weight training with high repetition cardiovascular exercise will stress your muscles, working together to increase the total fat burning effect on your body. Bottom line is to combine a weight lifting routine with a cardiovascular exercise program to increase your muscle metabolism and total fat burning ratio you achieve.
Another important factor to consider when trying to achieve weight loss is that a lot of muscle mass can be lost while dieting. Since muscle mass will keep your metabolism high, you should not attempt to lose weight through fad or miracle diets or starvation. Any weight lost through these fad diets will be regained quickly.
Instead, work on gradually losing fat by combining weight training and cardiovascular activities, and allow your muscles to build up and increase your metabolism. Losing weight this way does take time, but it is well worth it since the effects of the above combination will last much longer.
