Office Fitness: 5 Tips You Can Use
The problem many people state when asked why they don't exercise is often a lack of time. Today's world consists of longer hours, and many people find that after working an 8-12 hour day, they just don't have time to exercise, especially when they have a family to take care of at home.
Studies show people who exercise live longer, healthier lives. Exercising has even been shown to increase the blood supply to the brain, which keeps the mind more alert. So, if you are short on time due to a full time job, take a look at the tips below to find ways to squeeze exercise into your daily "office grind".
Number One
Most of us spend ten minutes driving in circles looking for a close parking space. So, try parking further away, where there are plenty of empty spots instead and take the five minutes you would have spent circling the parking lot grabbing some exercise.
Number Two
When getting to the office, the first thing most people do is turn their computer on. Instead of spending your time arranging paperclips during the process, try doing some squats instead. Keep in mind that this will work best for those with their own office or cubicle, and may not be as comfortable to do if your desk is in an open room with twenty of your coworkers.
Number Three
Instead of waiting for the elevator, try taking the stairs. With the time it takes to wait for the elevator and then stop at multiple floors on the way up, you could have gotten a good dose of exercise. Of course, you may miss out on some of the soothing music provided, but your body will thank you for it.
Number Four
Consider purchasing some inexpensive dumbbells to keep in your office or cubicle. The next time you find yourself finished with your deadline before the day is up, instead of hopping on the computer to grab a game of solitaire, try lifting your weights while at your desk.
Number Five
Remember to move! If you find that you are wrapped up at the desk for more than an hour, take a moment to walk across the room and back a few times. Maybe take a trip to the water cooler or, depending on how lenient your boss is, take a walk around your office floor. Sitting without movement all day will cause soreness and fatigue. So, make sure you get up and move to keep your body "in use".
