Toning Your Abs - Getting Real Results


One of the most common areas of the body people site as a "problem" area is their stomach. A lot of men and even more women want to know how to lose that extra weight around their waistline. And with the state of fashion today, a toned stomach almost seems like a must to stay "hip" (no pun intended).

Besides looking great, there are many other reasons to tone and strengthen your abdominal muscles. They can help support your back and help prevent lower-back pain. Your abs also help you hold your shoulders and chest up for great posture.

With the craze for great abs, many products are popping up claiming to be the solution to your tight tummy dilemmas. One such example is the abdominal electric exercise belt. The one that claims it can flatten your stomach with electronic impulses while you watch TV. Unfortunately, the claims made in the electronic belt, 8-minute workout and other quick fix infomercials just do not work.


How To Get a Toned Stomach


The only way to get a flat and toned stomach is with old-fashioned exercise combined with a sensible diet. Remember that you can not "spot reduce" areas of your body. While you can tone or strengthen specific areas, you can not exercise one body part alone and expect to see a new look for your entire body.

Getting great abs requires three basic components; toning, aerobic exercise and a healthy eating plan. These components will work your entire body, including your abs.

Toning your stomach can be achieved through exercises like crunches. However, keep in mind that toning is just a component of great abs, and toning alone will not give you the results you desire. You can get the aerobic exercise you need through activities like walking, cycling, running, and swimming.

And of course, keeping your diet to foods low in fat and calories is needed. Doing 60 sit-ups, an hour of walking and then coming home to grab a soda and a candy bar will not get you any results, other than an expanding waist line.

To achieve abs to be proud of, you will need to work at your entire body, and not just your stomach. Also remember the appearance of your middle muscles has a lot to do with heredity. You can do everything right but still not have the flat, rippled stomach of your dreams.

However, that does not mean you shouldn't bother with your abs. Just realize that it is normal to have a little bit of weight in your stomach. Trying to live up to singers and models with personal trainers and a six-hour a day workout is not a realistic goal. But having a tone, good looking stomach is. With work, overall exercise and some toning aimed at your abs, you can achieve a great look.
